A wee video of a platypus, from Oz. It makes me happy, is all.
And the second is a mob , which is how a group of kangas is referred to,
Somethings to make today less grey:)
It's nice to harken back to days filled with kangroo sightings.

3 mournings

Ok, so we have the magic number three in our death toll.

Beginning with Mary Daly, who died, either January 3rd or January 6th,
of "natural causes", though she was ill for quite a while. I hate the damn internet, nothing is certain, one article says one date another something else, forcing me to put both down. But if January 6th was the real day it would be quite ironic. Because she was born catholic, and the 6th is the epiphany. Perhaps the irony was not lost on her, and she had her own final epiphany as she went. She was 81.

Then Howard Zinn, January 27th, at 87

And finally Jerome David Salinger also on January 27th. He was 91.

I heard nothing anywhere about Mary Daly's death.

A People's History of the United States changed my whole perspective about who writes and tells histories.

Outercourse was almost a private diary from feminist, lesbian scholar, Daly. Recounting the struggle with Boston College who didn't want to give her tenure.

"That winter I was given a one-year terminal contract; that is, I was fired. I did not get an attorney, nor did I compromise in any way. Though I did not yet have the vocabulary to describe the demonic phenomenon of assimilation, I knew the danger and somehow side-stepped it. Although the university never bothered to give nay reason for the termination of our happy relationship, the press and just about everyone else put two and two together. An uppity Second Sex was just too much for the church."
(95-96, Daly,HarperSanFrancisco,1992)

And my favorite short story penned by Jerome will probably always be A Perfect Day For Bananafish.
"Sybil, he said." "I'll tell you what we'll do. We'll see if we can catch a bananafish."
"A what?"
"A bananafish." (
13, Salinger, Little Brown and Company, Nine Stories)

Mary, Howard and Jerome , thank you for giving us more to think about and strive towards. We who loved your work will mourn you deeply.

These three passionate writers, two of whom were also professors, were courageous, brilliant and determined to speak up.

Mary Daly was fired from Boston College for her book "
The Church and the Second Sex, ... but student and public outcry led the Jesuit college to rehire her. She taught there for 33 years."(taken from http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=122258110)

Jerome David's Catcher in The Rye was constantly being banned by small-mined biggots who took offense at the language used.

And dear old Howard with his forward thinking, allowed us to see the "other" as us.
Interestingly enough they all resided in the east coast of the U.S.

A typically very liberal area, though, with respect to lesbian and gay rights still being denied in those parts of the U.S., maybe the liberal badge is fading fast.

it's soo cold

So old J.D Salinger finally kicked it. I read his books, but him as a man a person, from the bios I've read, seemed like a real ass. Geesus, he had a "reltionship" with an 18 year old girl when he was in his 50s!
The girl was retarded enough to drop out of school, Yale, no less, for him.
Well, as a goodbye, I guess we can finally reckon that the Glass family won't be making any final surprise appearances. Maybe Bessy will finally let Zooey have a bath in peace now.

In other news it is so damn cold outside it was -13 earlier today, without wind and strangely it's warmed up to a whopping -11, let's not forget the old windchill, which puts us at about -21.
But everyone I saw today was wearing little, tiny jackets, no hats, sneakers, for pete's sake.
It's Canada, it's winter, and yes, it is freezing!

My cat wants my attention, so in an attempt to get it, she's gone to sit on a pile of papers..weerdo!

Racists get fucked!

"I looked in your eyes and I saw the shame
Y'all don't know that our greatness came before the chains
No you can't imagine a future where this all can change
If one of us ain't free then we all to blame
So we attack each other fighting project wars and thang
It's all the same across the board we fall for game"
Words by Talib Qweli, from the song 'Eternalist'

And isn't it the truth, yo!

I hate racists! Especially when they try to couch their hate in "normal" language.

I just stumbled upon a youtube video by some fucking "pastor" another group I hate, who was talking about how to get rid of a cold using some crap he made and an electric massager.

Fine. Good. Then I wanted to know more about who this man is, and lo and behold, he happens to be under surveillance by the old FBI. He's one of yer "good ol' boys" a disgusting, double faced evil mongerer.

Scary stuff. Shit. Let's get a few points clear, shall we.
A) There are no races, save for one, which we collectively refer to as the human race.
B) white is not a race! It's a fucking colour
C) Africa is not a god damned country, it's a Continent
D) No, it is not even remotely acceptable to refer to queer folks as "gays", and by extension people of colour as "blacks", etc...
E) We are all the same, it doesn't matter what cultural background we come from, we bleed, we cry, we're the same, end of!
F) I hate hate ,hate racist stereotyping bullshit, like people who talk about the genitals of men of colour cuz "they're bigger". That's some filthy shit. It leads to the whole disgusting line of thought that individuals of colour, namely black men , are seen as "animals" and over fucking sexual and sexulized.

the earthquake

Hey readers and animal lovers, please take a moment and sign my petition asking the Canadian Government to include animal rights into the constitution.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/put-animal-rights-into-the-constitution

The Haitian earthquake is awful, what makes it even more so is that Haiti has had "300 years of forest denudation " (I got that from an on-line article by someone called Tom Gill), and therefore, it has no way of sustaining floods, landslides and the aridity that comes about from not having any trees.

I've read lots of different estimations about what the human death toll could be. No where have any animals been mentioned. I'm worried.

I know it is 'the poorest country' in the west, and so helping human lives may take precedence, however, there are some organizations like WSPA and a group from Panama called Angeles de los Animales (angels of the animals) who are giving aid to the animals.

The "new" kitten we have adopted is curled up right next to me, asleep! She's adorable. Now she's woken up and is licking my hand, the hand she's snuggled on top of. I'm typing with only one hand...

If you have any information about the animals in Haiti, let me know.

merci

Interconnectivity

It's New Year Eve day, well early evening, kind of, and it's pretty warm for the end of December.

Good news: 2 of our 3 kittens have been adopted!

My New Year's Wish is people will start to realize really that we are all interconnected, and therefore how we treat or, in most cases, sadly, mistreat our animal neighbours on this earth, directly impacts everything within the sphere of connectivity.

I wish that Canada finally outlaws the disgusting bear "hunts" this year. Secondly, I wish that starting here in Canada everyone who lives with a pet or cares for homeless animals will do the responsible thing and get them spayed or neutered. ( Does anyone remember Bob Barker, from the Price is Right? At the end of each show he'd always tell people to get their dog or cat spayed or neutered. At the time I never understood why he'd always go on about that, and I would laugh, thinking it was such a weird thing for a game show host to say but in hindsight I realize that, in fact he used his fame well!)

And lastly, I wish for at least a thousand new signatures to get added to my petition.

I hope you all have a great New Year's!!!!

The greedy bastard-philistine-athon!

So, it's the day of Christmas Eve, which has always been my favourite day...it's cozy and exciting!

Christmas itself should really only be celebrated by people who dig Jesus, the Light, or Christos, which means light, in Greek. It is his supposed birthday. That's not really a fact, of course that December 25th is the "birthday" of Jesus, it was a plot of convenience by the governing bodies at the time..I can't remember all the stupid details.

But the point is, it's supposed to be a birthday of Jesus, but we give each other gifts. Also, some people eat pork, that, I have to say I find funny, as in weird. Jesus was a Jewish person, full stop. So the whole pork eating thing wasn't kosher, at all.

Also, people talk endlessly about "the Christmas spirit", what they really mean is "the greedy bastard-philistine-athon". At Christmas there are more people begging on the streets and over the past 2 years, more unemployment. All the while people keep telling themselves that if they buy so-and-so that biggest, latest, whatever she/he will love her/him more. Also, no one ever holds any damn door open for other people during this time of year. But,of course not, everyone's rushing off to shop. That is of course the true meaning of being a philistine.
Ah, Christmas!
And then there's the obsession with the music. And the damn idea of a "white Christmas".

Little point of fact, that song, "White Christmas" that we all have come to know and either love or abhor, was written by a man named Irving Berlin, a very talented, and very Jewish man! Ah, the irony!!!

You know, with a little wave of his magic wand, for well over 60 years now, we the Christmas-music-listening pubic have become weather forecasters. All we talk about is whether or not it'll be a white Christmas. I wonder if people gave 2 shits about the state of the weather at Christmas before 1942, when the song was written?

And lastly,
my "Christmas" wish:

this year, especially in light of the raids on the Toronto Humane Society by the OSPCA , who uncovered disgusting and gruesome acts of animal cruelty, I truly hope that no one gives animals as their present to anyone, least of all to a child. That angers and disgusts me to no end! Animals are not property! Why the fuck can we 'buy' a dog, kitty, bunny, turtle, hamster, ...and then give it a gift. We don't go and buy children and give them as gifts, now do we?
